At Te Punanga Reo o Takitumu, we’re not just nurturing tamariki—we’re shaping a new era for our language and culture. As the first total immersion Cook Islands Māori childcare center in Rarotonga, our mission is to embed Reo Māori Kuki Airani and Peu Māori Tupuna into every aspect of early childhood learning.
We’re looking for dedicated Puapi‘i (educators) to join our team and make a real difference. This role offers the chance to care for tamariki aged 6 weeks to 5 years in a safe, loving environment while fostering their cultural identity and growth. Job Description
Puapi‘i (Educator)
Position Title: Puapi‘i (Educator)
Location: Te Punanga Reo o Takitumu, Pa Ariki Palace, Mata Enua, Ngatangiia
Reports To: Centre Manager
Purpose of the Role:
The Puapi‘i will play a vital role in nurturing tamariki (children) within a total immersion Te Reo Māori environment. This role focuses on fostering cultural pride, language development, and holistic growth through the values of Peu Māori Tupuna.
Key Responsibilities:
Tamariki Care and Development
Provide nurturing care, guidance, and support to tamariki aged 6 weeks to 5 years.
Facilitate activities that encourage social, emotional, and physical growth.
Language and Cultural Immersion
Engage tamariki in daily activities conducted entirely in Reo Māori Kuki Airani.
Incorporate Peu Māori Tupuna into learning experiences, storytelling, and play.
Learning Environment
Maintain a safe, welcoming, and culturally enriched environment for tamariki.
Prepare and implement activities that reflect the values of Peu Māori.
Collaboration and Teamwork
Work collaboratively with other Puapi‘i to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
Participate in planning and team meetings to enhance educational practices.
Engagement with Whānau
Build strong relationships with tamariki and their whānau, fostering a sense of belonging and trust.
Communicate progress and share ideas to support tamariki development.
Work Hours:
Full-Time: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (includes break time).
Part-Time Options:
Morning Shift: 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
Afternoon Shift: 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM.
Key Requirements:
A passion for Reo Māori Kuki Airani and the preservation of Peu Māori Tupuna.
Experience or interest in early childhood education.
A current First Aid Certificate is required (we can assist you in obtaining this if necessary).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to creating a loving, inclusive, and safe space for tamariki.
Willingness to learn and adapt to the unique needs of an immersive educational environment.
